What’s a beauty-crazed girl to do, when the weather gets the best of her? You know it all to well, right?  Dehydrated skin, chapped lips, greasy hair, pimples and dry cuticles...the list goes on. Our gut feeling might be to head to Sephora for some much-needed retail therapy to stock up on the necessities to treat our skin. But we all agree- our wallets need a bit of a break, every now and then.

So, what’s a broke girl to do? Truth is, beauty products are all around us and finding them just needs a little bit of perspective. With a DIY mindset, you can turn the grocery store into a beauty emporium that’s stocked with 100% natural items, that work wonders for your skin and hair too. Keep reading to learn what you need to add to your grocery list, NOW!

Yoghurt

Plain, preservative yoghurt contains lactic acid that gently dissolves dead skin cells, unclogs pores and even enhances skin tone, making it the perfect ingredient for a simple face mask. Just add a thin layer to your face and neck and leave on for 15-20minutes. Rinse off with warm water and voila! Glowing skin in an instant.

Apple Cider Vinegar

It makes for an ideal natural toner and works by removing dirt and balancing the skin’s pH to prevent breakouts and reduce unruly blemishes. For those with dry skin- Mix with water, and for achieving less oily skin, wipe over your face with a cotton ball after you wash. This leaves you with a radiant, glowing complexion.

Coconut Oil

If you’re yet to give into the power of coconut oil, it’s about to become your new secret weapon. Not only can it be used as a makeup remover and an eye de-puffer, it can also repair damaged hair, smooth frizz and flyaways, all while adding major shine.

Oatmeal

It fixes nearly everything. It’s calming and anti-inflammatory by nature and is perfect for exfoliating. Check out the recipe for a unique beautifying Puree: ¾ a cup of oatmeal, one egg, 1/4 cup mineral water and 1/4cup  of raw honey in a blender. Once blended, apply to your face and leave for five minutes and rinse. The mixture strips away dry skin while moisturizing, lightening and smoothing, leaving you with rejuvenated skin.

Chamomile Tea

Still looking tired? Chamomile tea is just what the doctor ordered for those puffed eye bags. This tea’s powerful antioxidants help soothe redness, reduce inflammation. Simply boil water letting the tea bags steep up for up to five minutes. Next, squeeze out the excess liquid and place the bags over your eyes and cover with a warm cloth and let the tea bag do its job.

Honey

If you are looking for a multipurpose ingredient, then honey is ‘The’ beauty elixir. Mix it with equal parts of olive oil to condition dry hair or with equal parts oatmeal for a facial forumula that deeply cleanses. Got sugar? Add a pinch of brown sugar to exfoliate dry lips: Simply rub it on your skin for an extra moisturizing, antioxidant-rich face mask.
